June 20, 1929—May 14, 2009

On Thursday, May 14th 2009 we lost Tom Engelhardt as his long battle with cancer ended a giving and productive life. Tom joined our Hastings Kiwanis in March of 1991. Since that day, he participated in so many ways and gave everything of himself to every activity. In addition to Kiwanis, he was active in his church at First St. Paul's Lutheran, Elks, Chorus of the Plains, and served on the Food Pantry board. His many connections in the community helped to bring new ways to serve to our Kiwanis family. His loving wife Rosalie was always at his side at family events and in November of 2007 he sponsored his son, Mike, into our club. He was also father to Scott, Jon, and Cynthia and grandfather of Garrett, Shawn, and Elijah. Before retirement he was a farmer who also sold insurance. From November of 1951 to November of 1953, he served our country during the Korean War as a Sergeant in the United States Marines. As you can see from the following pictures, Tom loved life and we loved him. We will always remember. . . .
