June 30,
1921—March 27, 2008
On Pancake Day, 2008, we lost our beloved friend
and fellow Kiwanian of 37 years, Frank Northrop.
How uncanny the loss should be on
Pancake Day.
Every year at Pancake time, Frank
would hit the streets and call on businesses and friends to sell pancake
tickets—a pattern so routine over many years that other members would often hear
"No, I buy mine from Frank!"
When Frank became too ill a couple
of years ago, it took a computer database and 80 members to try to fill his
shoes.
Over the years he served on the
board numerous times and on many committees.
He could always be seen at
Christmas-time, ringing the bells for Salvation Army, helping with the K-Mart
shopping for kids who may never before have bought a present for others in their
families, and interacting with the Head Start kids at the special lunch and
party.
In 2000, Frank received the
International Hixon award for service for his long-time loyalty and dedication
to Kiwanis.
Frank will indeed be sorely missed
but his sense of humor and warm spirit will always be present among us.
